There are some young people whose presence changes the way you see the world. They remind you that courage, faith, and love can exist even in the midst of immense struggle. Daria Gebbia was one of those rare and extraordinary souls. Her strength, warmth, and optimism touched everyone she met, and her light continues to shine brightly in all who were fortunate enough to know her.

From the moment I met Daria, I was struck by her incredible spirit. She had a spark, that unmistakable light in her eyes that told you she was a fighter, but also a giver. Her smile could fill a room, and her laughter had the power to ease even the heaviest heart. She was kind, selfless, and brave beyond measure.

Daria’s journey with cancer was long and difficult, but she faced each day with courage and grace that defied her age. Through countless treatments, surgeries, and setbacks, she remained positive and hopeful. She shared her story openly, not to seek sympathy, but to give strength to others. In her words and actions, she reminded everyone that “every day is a chance to keep going, to keep hoping, and to keep living life to the fullest.”

Even as she faced the most challenging moments, Daria never stopped finding reasons to be grateful. Her positivity was unwavering, even in times of great uncertainty. She drew strength from her family, her friends, and her community, and in turn, she gave that strength right back. Her kindness and resilience became a source of inspiration to all who followed her journey.

Throughout her treatment, Daria was surrounded by her devoted family, her parents, Dina and Joseph, her brother Chase, and her sister Dana, whose unwavering love gave her the strength to keep fighting. Her mother, especially, was her constant companion and her greatest source of comfort. The bond they shared was one of the most powerful expressions of love I have ever witnessed.

Daria also drew incredible support from her Verona community, her friends, and her extended family, who rallied behind her every step of the way. She never forgot to express her gratitude for that support. Even in the midst of hardship, she found time to thank others, share her appreciation, and remind the world of the importance of kindness.

There is a saying that some lights burn too brightly for this world, but Daria’s light will never fade. It lives on in the people she inspired, in the lessons she taught us about faith and perseverance, and in the love she gave so freely. She showed us all what true strength looks like, not the kind that shouts, but the kind that quietly refuses to give up.

Daria once wrote that she was looking forward to spending time with her family and friends, “making the most of every moment.” That was exactly what she did. Even as her world grew smaller, her heart remained wide open. She taught us all to cherish what truly matters: love, connection, and gratitude for every day we are given.

Her story, her courage, and her joy will stay with me forever.

In honor of Daria, her family has requested that donations be made to the Osteosarcoma Institute at osinst.org, a cause close to their hearts and a meaningful way to continue her legacy of hope and strength. Daria’s light will continue to shine through every act of kindness, every shared smile, and every moment of courage inspired by her memory.
