When a child is diagnosed with cancer, an entire family begins a journey that reshapes every part of life: emotionally, physically, and financially. At the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of New Jersey (PCFNJ), we recognize that healing extends beyond treatment to encompass the entire family.

That belief has guided every step of our work, and today, it inspires our next chapter.

We are proud to announce the formation of the PCFNJ Governing Board, a remarkable team of professionals, advocates, and friends who share one mission: to bring hope, healing, and meaningful support to children with cancer and their families throughout New Jersey.

Leadership Rooted in Compassion and Experience

At the heart of this new chapter is Dr. James C. Wittig, PCFNJ’s Founder and Chairman. As a world-renowned orthopedic oncologist, Dr. Wittig has dedicated his career to saving limbs, preserving quality of life, and offering hope to families navigating the most difficult diagnoses.

Surrounding him is a diverse group of leaders from medicine, law, business, engineering, and nonprofit management. Each brings compassion, expertise, and a shared commitment to PCFNJ’s mission. Together, they embody the Foundation’s guiding belief that healing is strongest when rooted in family and community.

A Foundation Built on Family

The PCFNJ story is one of relationships, lifelong friendships, shared purpose, and a deep understanding that families need more than medical care when facing cancer.

In a recent note to new board members, Executive Director Cynthia Artin captured this perfectly:

“The Foundation is all about Family… we are just getting started, and extremely fortunate and energized by the opportunity to help many children, their parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and more during the very challenging time after a diagnosis.”

This philosophy shines through every initiative, from funding medical education and research to Positively Creative, a program that brings joy and expression through art, music, and creativity, as well as wellness and mental health programs that support recovery and resilience.

Looking Ahead

With the establishment of the Governing Board, PCFNJ is poised to grow, expanding its programs, outreach, and partnerships to reach more children and families across New Jersey.

Our work is just beginning, but our commitment is unwavering:
To give every child the chance to feel hope.
To ensure every family knows they are not alone.
And to create a community of care that uplifts, heals, and inspires.

We are deeply grateful to our new Governing Board for joining us in this mission, and to the families and supporters who make our work possible.
